President Trump suggested Sunday that the Department of Justice may be investigating former FBI Director Christopher Wray, just days after former FBI chief James Comey was indicted.

Speaking in a phone interview with NBC, Trump said he “would think” the DOJ is looking into Wray’s conduct, accusing him of “inappropriate” behavior. “Wray did a terrible job and we just found out about it,” Trump said, referencing claims that FBI agents were embedded during the Jan. 6 Capitol attack. He cited an unverified report by Blaze Media that 274 plainclothes agents were present — a claim contradicted by a December DOJ inspector general report, which found no evidence supporting such allegations.

Trump, who appointed Wray during his first term, said, “Don’t forget, we just found out about all of these FBI agents being there.” He stopped short of confirming any investigation.

Wray has previously testified before Congress that FBI sources were not orchestrating violence at the Capitol. In a 2023 interview with CBS60 Minutes, Wray defended the bureau’s independence, saying investigators must “follow the facts wherever they lead, no matter who likes it.”
