U.S. President Donald Trump spoke Saturday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and several European and NATO leaders following his summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
No agreement emerged from the Trump-Putin meeting despite Trump rolling out the red carpet for Putin. Trump said afterward that “there’s no deal until there’s a deal,” while Putin claimed an “understanding” had been reached and warned Europe not to undermine progress.
In a Fox News interview before leaving Alaska, Trump suggested it was now largely up to Zelenskyy “to get it done,” with some help from European nations.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed Trump had lengthy calls with Zelenskyy and NATO leaders after landing in Washington but provided no details. Leaders on the calls included German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Polish President Karol Nawrocki, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte.
Putin’s adviser Yuri Ushakov told Russian state TV that a trilateral meeting with Trump, Putin, and Zelenskyy “has not been touched upon yet.”
