WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump said this week that the United States has a “virtually unlimited” munitions stockpile and could fight a war “forever,” even as reports suggest certain weapons supplies are under strain.

Trump wrote on Truth Social that U.S. munitions stockpiles at the “medium and upper medium grade” have “never been higher or better,” while acknowledging that at the “highest end” the country is “not where we want to be.” The White House pointed to the president’s remarks, and the Pentagon said the military has “everything it needs to execute any mission” at the president’s direction.

However, reporting indicates that U.S. and allied stockpiles — including those of Israel and Gulf nations — are being depleted faster than production can replenish them. U.S. interceptor systems, used to stop incoming missiles, are reportedly dwindling as Iran fires large barrages of missiles and drones in an expanding regional conflict.

Congress has allocated roughly $25 billion in the 2025 reconciliation bill to boost munitions production, and new agreements with defense contractors aim to increase missile output, including more than 1,000 Tomahawk missiles annually.

The scale and duration of the conflict could test both supply chains and production capacity.
