President Trump said Tuesday a potential trade deal with South Korea may be in progress, noting the country is sending a team to the U.S. for negotiations nearly a week after his latest tariff announcement.

“I just had a great call with the Acting President of South Korea,” Trump posted on Truth Social, referencing discussions on South Korea’s trade surplus, shipbuilding, military contributions, and energy purchases. He added, “Their top TEAM is on a plane heading to the U.S., and things are looking good.”

Last week, Trump imposed a 25% tariff on South Korea as part of a broader tariff package that includes a 10% baseline on all U.S. trading partners and higher rates on dozens of countries.

Trump said other nations, including Japan and China, are also in various stages of discussions. He described the approach as “ONE STOP SHOPPING” for negotiating both trade and non-trade issues.

China has vowed to retaliate, calling Trump’s additional 50% tariff threat “a mistake on top of a mistake.”
