WASHINGTON, DC — President Donald Trump said Thursday he does not plan to deploy U.S. ground troops in the Middle East as the conflict with Iran continues, pushing back on speculation about a possible mission to secure enriched uranium. Speaking at the White House, Trump stated, “I’m not putting troops anywhere,” while leaving open broader military and strategic options.

The comments come as the Pentagon seeks roughly $200 billion in funding tied to the conflict and broader global security concerns. Trump said the request reflects a “very volatile world” beyond the immediate situation in Iran, even as he expressed confidence that current operations could conclude soon.

Trump made the remarks ahead of a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, where discussions included trade and allied cooperation. He indicated Japan and other partners may play a role in addressing disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route affected by Iranian attacks.

Japan joined several European nations in signaling support for efforts to ensure safe passage through the strait, though constitutional limits may constrain its direct involvement. The administration continues to coordinate with allies as tensions persist in the region.
