President-elect Donald Trump announced plans to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America” during a press conference, calling it a “beautiful name.” Trump also discussed ambitions to expand U.S. territory, suggesting retaking the Panama Canal, merging Canada with the U.S., and purchasing Greenland. While he ruled out military action against Canada, he left open the possibility of force for reclaiming the Panama Canal, describing it as “vital to our country.”
The press conference also highlighted foreign investment in U.S. infrastructure. Emirati billionaire Hussain Sajwani joined Trump to announce multi-billion-dollar investments in American data centers, attributing the decision to Trump’s re-election. In December, Trump unveiled a similar $100 billion U.S. investment plan with SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son.
