In a recent interview with ABC News, former President Donald Trump acknowledged that a loss in the upcoming presidential election to Vice President Kamala Harris is possible. Responding to ABC’s Jonathan Karl about whether he could imagine losing, Trump stated, “Yeah, I guess, you know…you could lose. Bad things could happen.”
Polling suggests a historically tight race, with Trump and Harris nearly tied in key swing states, creating a close and unpredictable contest. According to Decision Desk HQ/The Hill’s latest national polling, both candidates are neck-and-neck, each holding 48.3% of voter support.
Trump expressed confidence that the winner would be clear by Election Night and mentioned he would address the country “at the right time” on Election Day. Despite his acknowledgment of the possibility of losing, Trump has previously hinted that his loss could only result from fraud, an assertion echoed by his “bad things could happen” comment. In response, the Harris campaign is preparing for a scenario in which Trump may declare victory prematurely.
