Former President Donald Trump has expressed openness to having Robert F. Kennedy Jr. join the presidential debates with President Biden, provided Kennedy meets the necessary criteria. Trump stated, “I would have no problem if he got whatever the threshold is,” during a Scripps News interview.
Trump and Biden have agreed to two presidential debates, with CNN hosting the first on June 27 and ABC the second on September 10. To participate, candidates must be on enough state ballots to potentially win 270 electoral votes and have at least 15% support in four national polls.
Trump suggested that Kennedy’s current polling and qualification status might not meet these standards, saying, “Junior needs more than his name to get on the ‘stage!’”. Meanwhile, Kennedy claims to have secured ballot access in 14 states and is fighting his exclusion from the debates, arguing it undermines democracy.
