WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump’s media company is charging financial firms as much as $100,000 per month for near-instant access to Truth Social posts, creating a potentially valuable trading advantage from presidential announcements that routinely move markets.
Trump Media & Technology Group launched Truth API on Aug. 1. The machine-readable service delivers posts from 10 prominent accounts within milliseconds, allowing automated trading systems to respond before most investors see alerts or manually refresh the platform.
Trump is the sole beneficiary of a trust holding approximately 41.5% of Trump Media, while Donald Trump Jr. controls the shares as trustee. Axios reported that at least five customers have subscribed, including financial news organizations and high-frequency trading firms.
The potential value quickly became apparent. Trump’s announcement canceling planned strikes on Iran was followed by a nearly 5% decline in oil prices when markets reopened. Previous posts concerning Iran, cryptocurrencies and tariffs have also produced substantial market swings.
Democratic lawmakers argue the arrangement creates an obvious conflict between presidential authority and private profit. Sen. Mark Warner introduced legislation seeking to prohibit social media companies controlled by federal officials from selling prioritized access to their posts.
Trump Media maintains that every post is already public and that customers are purchasing delivery speed, not confidential information. That distinction does little to erase concerns about a president financially benefiting from privileged access to his own market-moving communications.
