President-elect Donald Trump has invited Chinese President Xi Jinping to his inauguration, according to incoming White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt. Xi’s attendance remains undecided, Leavitt stated during an appearance on “Fox and Friends.”
Leavitt described the invitation as part of Trump’s approach to fostering dialogue with both allies and adversaries, following precedent by inviting foreign leaders to inaugurations.
The invitation comes as Trump has pledged tougher tariffs on China and appointed several China critics to key positions, including Sen. Marco Rubio as secretary of state, Rep. Elise Stefanik as UN ambassador, and Rep. Michael Waltz as national security adviser.
