President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for Education Secretary, Linda McMahon, is involved in a lawsuit alleging she and her husband, Vince McMahon, allowed a WWE announcer to sexually abuse young boys in the 1980s. The lawsuit claims Linda and Vince McMahon were aware of announcer Mel Phillips’ abuse of “ring boys,” young workers assisting with events, but failed to act decisively.

The plaintiffs, who remain unnamed, allege Phillips, who died in 2012, continued to abuse boys despite warnings and temporary dismissal. Vince McMahon reportedly acknowledged Phillips’ “peculiar interest” in boys but later rehired him, allegedly ignoring directives to avoid the boys.

Linda McMahon, who led Trump’s transition team, denies the allegations. Her attorney, Laura Brevetti, called the claims “scurrilous lies” and vowed to fight the suit.

Attorney Greg Gutzler, representing the plaintiffs, stated, “That so many were aware of the abuse and did nothing to stop it is simply unconscionable.” Critics argue the lawsuit, filed in October 2024, is politically timed.

Separately, Vince McMahon resigned from WWE parent company TKO Group Holdings earlier this year following sexual misconduct allegations, which he denies.
