In a recent national poll, former President Trump narrowly outpaced President Biden by just 1 point. The Emerson College survey revealed that 46 percent of voters support Trump, while Biden garnered 45 percent. Approximately 8 percent of respondents remained undecided ahead of the November general election.
Despite Trump’s razor-thin lead, it falls within the margin of error, effectively making this match-up a dead heat. When undecided voters were probed about their leanings, Trump gained an additional point, reaching 51 percent, while Biden stood at 49 percent.
Factoring in third-party candidates, Trump still maintains a slight advantage. In this scenario, Trump received 43 percent compared to Biden’s 42 percent. Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. secured 8 percent, while Cornell West and Jill Stein each obtained 1 percent.
Interestingly, Trump leads among registered voters, but among likely voters, Biden prevails with 51 percent over Trump’s 49 percent. This outcome challenges the conventional wisdom that Trump supporters are more energized.
Among independent voters, Trump holds a 3 percent lead, garnering 44 percent against Biden’s 41 percent. When third-party candidates enter the equation, Trump maintains his three-point lead, while Kennedy rises to 10 percent.
Biden’s approval rating in the survey is 40 percent, while 51 percent disapprove of his job as president. The economy emerged as the top issue for voters, followed by immigration, threats to democracy, health care, and crime.
The Emerson College Polling national survey was conducted between April 2 and 3 among 1,438 registered voters, and the margin of error is 2.5 percentage points.
