President-elect Donald Trump expressed frustration over the continued captivity of Israeli hostages in Gaza, demanding their release before his January 20, 2025, inauguration. He warned on Truth Social that if the hostages remain detained, there would be severe repercussions. “There will be ALL HELL TO PAY in the Middle East,” Trump wrote, emphasizing unprecedented U.S. retaliation against those responsible.
Trump’s remarks followed the Israeli government’s confirmation of the death of Omer Neutra, a dual U.S.-Israeli citizen, whose body is still believed to be in Hamas custody. Days earlier, Hamas released a video of Edan Alexander, an Israeli soldier held in Gaza, pleading for Trump’s intervention.
The Gaza conflict began over a year ago when Hamas militants launched a deadly attack in southern Israel, killing about 1,200 people and taking approximately 250 hostages on October 7, 2023.
