President Trump on Thursday raised the possibility of Ukraine launching an offensive against Russia, suggesting such action could be justified and criticizing President Biden’s prior restrictions on Kyiv’s use of U.S. long-range missiles.
“It is very hard, if not impossible, to win a war without attacking an invader’s country,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Crooked and grossly incompetent Joe Biden would not let Ukraine FIGHT BACK, only DEFEND. How did that work out? … Interesting times ahead!!!”
Following Trump’s 2024 election victory, Biden shifted U.S. policy to allow Ukraine to use American-provided missiles against targets inside Russia. Trump blasted the move at the time as “stupid,” saying he “might” reverse it once in office.
Lawmakers in both parties backed Biden’s policy shift, though some Republicans argued it came too late, while Trump’s allies warned it risked escalation.
Trump’s remarks come as Russian officials have expressed skepticism about progress on a peace deal and the possibility of a Putin–Zelensky meeting.
