Former President Donald Trump took aim at President Joe Biden on Friday, using his birthday message to renew calls for cognitive tests as Biden faces scrutiny over his mental fitness. Trump, celebrating his 78th birthday at a Club 47 event in West Palm Beach, Florida, criticized Biden, who will turn 82 shortly after Election Day, stating, “Our country is being destroyed by incompetent people. All presidents should have aptitude tests.”
Trump has persistently urged Biden to take a cognitive test, especially following a February report from Special Counsel Robert Hur describing Biden as “a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.” Despite this, Biden’s doctors have declared him “fit for office.”
In response, the Biden campaign released a video highlighting “78 of Trump’s historic… ‘accomplishments,’” which included his recent conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records. The video concluded with the message, “Age is just a number, but an election is a choice.”
Biden campaign spokesperson James Singer added, “on behalf of America, our early gift for your 79th: Making sure you are never President again.”
Despite the Biden campaign’s efforts, Trump celebrated his birthday surrounded by supporters and a large “Make America Great Again” cake. The event followed Trump’s meetings with Republican members of Congress, where he emphasized his strong relationship with the GOP and appeared to reconcile with critics, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
