Washington, D.C. — President Donald Trump sparked criticism Monday after using the term “Dumocrats” in a Memorial Day social media message while millions of Americans marked the federal holiday honoring fallen U.S. service members.

Posting on Truth Social early Monday morning, Trump wrote: “Happy Memorial Day to all, including the Dumocrats, who disrespect our Military and all of the tremendous success that it has had over the last year.” In a follow-up post, Trump added that Democrats have “BAD POLICY, AND BAD CANDIDATES.”

The comments immediately generated backlash online, with critics accusing Trump of politicizing a solemn national holiday traditionally focused on honoring military personnel who died in service to the United States. Trump has frequently used holiday-themed posts to attack political opponents, including previous Memorial Day messages criticizing judges, Democrats, and immigration policies.

Despite the controversy surrounding the posts, Trump was also scheduled to participate Monday in formal Memorial Day ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery. According to the White House, Trump planned to visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and deliver remarks alongside military leaders, administration officials, and Gold Star families.
