President Trump announced Monday that the U.S. will send more defensive weapons to Ukraine following escalating Russian attacks and rising casualties. The announcement comes just days after the Pentagon paused shipments of precision-guided munitions due to concerns over U.S. stockpile levels.
“We’re going to send some more weapons, we have to,” Trump told reporters during a dinner with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “They have to be able to defend themselves. They’re getting hit very hard now.”
The decision follows a Friday phone call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during which Trump reaffirmed U.S. support for air defense assistance.
Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell later confirmed the move, emphasizing that it aligns with Trump’s “America First defense priorities” and aims to “secure a lasting peace.”
The nature of the weapons will remain defensive, reflecting Trump’s insistence on avoiding direct offensive escalation.
