Washington, DC – President Trump is entering the final stretch before the 2026 midterm elections with his approval rating at a record low, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos survey.
The poll found that 33% of Americans approve of Trump’s job performance, while 65% disapprove. His approval has fallen from 47% at the beginning of his second term and is down four percentage points from roughly a month ago. Reuters reported that the 33% figure matches the record low measured earlier in August.
The decline comes as the administration faces public dissatisfaction over both the economy and the nearly six-month-old war with Iran. Reuters/Ipsos found just 31% of Americans now support U.S. military action against Iran, down from 37% in March. Support among Republican respondents has also declined, although a majority still backs the war.
Other polling shows Trump performing somewhat better. Decision Desk HQ’s national polling average placed his approval at 38.7% and disapproval at 57.9% on Tuesday, illustrating the variation between individual surveys and broader polling averages.
The Reuters/Ipsos survey was conducted Aug. 21–24 among 1,215 U.S. adults and has a margin of error of about three percentage points. With November’s midterms approaching, Trump’s standing could become an increasingly important factor for Republicans running in competitive races.
