The Donald Trump administration is considering investigating whether New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani should be stripped of his U.S. citizenship. The move follows calls from Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN), who alleges Mamdani may have concealed support for terrorism during his naturalization process.

Mamdani, 33, a Uganda-born Muslim and naturalized citizen since 2018, drew criticism for past remarks supporting Palestinian causes. Ogles cited Mamdani’s 2010s rap lyrics referring to men convicted of aiding Hamas as “my guys,” and his refusal to disavow past calls to “globalize the intifada.”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the allegations “should be investigated” if true. The Department of Justice acknowledged receipt of Ogles’ request but offered no comment.

Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy called the effort “racist bullshit,” defending Mamdani’s populist campaign as a threat to the political elite. Trump, meanwhile, called Mamdani “a pure communist” and threatened to withhold federal funding from New York if he “doesn’t behave himself.”
