The FBI has arrested a Middle Tennessee woman accused of threatening to kill U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN).

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Tennessee, 22-year-old Penelope Convertino of Murfreesboro was charged with making a threat to murder a federal official. Prosecutors said the case stems from a voicemail left on May 30 at Blackburn’s Nashville office, where Convertino allegedly said: “I’m gonna kill Marsha Blackburn. I’m gonna shoot her with a gun. I’m gonna blow up her head on national TV.”

Convertino entered a not guilty plea and was released pending trial, court records show. She faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted. The indictment was filed under seal on Aug. 20. Acting U.S. Attorney Rob McGuire is handling the case.

Blackburn, a key figure in Tennessee Republican politics, was reelected to the Senate last year and is already running for governor in 2026.
