President Joe Biden, addressing concerns over his debate performance, will be interviewed by ABC News on Friday. This comes as he travels to Madison, Wisconsin, to rally Democratic voters, part of an effort to demonstrate his capability to compete against Donald Trump in the November 5 election.
Despite Biden’s assurances about his health, pressure mounts for him to step aside for Vice President Kamala Harris. Some donors are withholding funds, and even close allies like former Speaker Nancy Pelosi have questioned his health. Polls show Trump gaining a lead, with a Reuters/Ipsos poll indicating one in three Democrats want Biden to quit the race.
Blaming a cold and jet lag for his debate issues, Biden will have an opportunity for unscripted comments during the ABC interview. At a Fourth of July event, he responded to encouragement with, “I’m not going anywhere.”
The Biden campaign, despite trailing in fundraising, announced a $50 million media blitz for July, targeting key events like the 2024 Olympic Games and the Republican National Convention. Meanwhile, Trump’s campaign has started attacking Harris, anticipating she might replace Biden as the nominee.
