Second Lady Usha Vance will travel to Greenland this week, marking the highest-profile visit yet by a member of the Trump administration to the Danish territory. She will arrive Thursday with her son and a U.S. delegation and stay through Saturday.

During her visit, Vance will tour historical sites, learn about Greenlandic culture, and attend the Avannaata Qimussersu, the national dogsled race featuring 37 mushers and 444 dogs. Her trip follows President Trump’s renewed push for the U.S. to acquire Greenland, a proposal that has drawn sharp criticism from Greenlandic leaders.

President Trump has argued that acquiring Greenland is essential for national security, stating earlier this month, “One way or the other, we’re going to get it.” Greenland’s Prime Minister Múte Egede responded, “We are not for sale and cannot simply be taken.”

National Security Adviser Mike Waltz will also visit Greenland, including a stop at the U.S.-operated Pituffik Space Base.

Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., visited Greenland in January to film media content.
