Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine from May 8-11 to mark the 80th anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany, the Kremlin said Monday.

“All military actions are suspended” during the ceasefire, Russia’s Foreign Ministry stated, calling on Ukraine to reciprocate. Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Minister Andrii Sybiha responded skeptically, urging an immediate and lasting truce rather than a short pause.

The ceasefire announcement follows President Trump’s increasing frustration with Putin’s actions. Trump criticized Russia’s recent deadly missile strikes on Kyiv, which killed 12 civilians, including children.

“I want him to stop shooting, sit down and sign a deal,” Trump told reporters Sunday.

This marks Russia’s second call for a temporary truce in two weeks, following an earlier “Easter truce” that Ukraine said Russia violated.

Trump and his aides continue to pressure both sides to reach a peace deal, warning the U.S. could disengage if negotiations stall. The announcement comes days after Trump’s meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Rome.
