Public opinion on the right-wing policy proposal Project 2025 is becoming more negative, according to a recent Navigator Research poll of 1,000 registered voters from July 11 to July 14. Awareness of the plan rose to 54%, a 25-point increase since late June. Among those aware, only 11% view it favorably, while 43% hold an unfavorable opinion, marking a 24-point rise in negativity.
Project 2025, developed by the Heritage Foundation, outlines policies for a future Republican administration, including removing civil service protections, eliminating the Department of Education, and reducing Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.
Over 70% of Democrats are aware of Project 2025, with 64% expressing strong disapproval. Among independents, two-thirds are unfamiliar, though those aware lean negative (8% favorable vs. 28% unfavorable).
Former President Donald Trump distanced himself from Project 2025, calling it “radical” and “extreme.” Despite this, 45% of Americans believe it reflects Trump’s principles. Critics describe Project 2025 as a move toward authoritarianism, potentially threatening American democracy.
