Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker said Sunday that President Donald Trump has not briefed his office about a possible federal deployment to Chicago, warning the plan amounts to “an invasion with U.S. troops.”

Speaking on CBS’s Face the Nation, Pritzker accused Trump of having political motives beyond crime reduction. “He’ll just claim that there’s some problem with an election, and then he’s got troops on the ground that can take control if, in fact, he’s allowed to do this,” Pritzker said. He added that troops have “no place” in U.S. cities unless there is an insurrection or true emergency.

The White House pushed back, with spokeswoman Abigail Jackson accusing Pritzker of deflecting from Chicago’s crime problem. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has already pledged a “strike team” of ICE agents to the city, while Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson signed an order blocking local police from cooperating with federal patrols.
