WASHINGTON, D.C. — A new poll from ABC News, The Washington Post, and Ipsos shows that 67 percent of Americans believe the country is “off on the wrong track,” while just 32 percent say things are “going in the right direction.” The survey, conducted from October 24–28 among 2,725 adults, has a margin of error of 1.9 percentage points.

The data reveal a sharp partisan divide: 95 percent of Democrats and 77 percent of independents view the country as heading in the wrong direction, compared to 29 percent of Republicans. The pessimism extends across racial and ethnic lines, with 87 percent of Black respondents, 71 percent of Hispanics, 71 percent of Asians, and 61 percent of white Americans sharing the same sentiment.

The percentage of Americans expressing dissatisfaction has declined slightly from November 2024, when 75 percent said the nation was on the wrong path before the presidential election.

The survey also found that both major parties are widely viewed as disconnected from everyday Americans. Sixty-eight percent said the Democratic Party is “out of touch,” while 61 percent said the same about the Republican Party. Former President Donald Trump was viewed as “out of touch” by 63 percent of respondents.
