Rep. Nancy Pelosi responded strongly to former President Trump’s statement wishing for an economic crash within the next 12 months. On MSNBC’s “Inside with Jen Psaki,” Pelosi remarked, “He calls himself the messiah. I guess he doesn’t know much about the messiah,” and added, “He says he wants the economy to crash. I guess he doesn’t know what that means to America’s working families.”
Trump, eyeing a rematch with President Biden in the upcoming election, expressed his desire not to be like former President Hoover, who was in office during the onset of the Great Depression. “And when there’s a crash — I hope it’s going to be during this next 12 months because I don’t want to be Herbert Hoover,” Trump said.
Pelosi criticized Trump’s insensitivity, highlighting his disregard for the impact of an economic downturn on American families. She contrasted Biden’s performance as president, praising his achievements in job creation and reducing unemployment and inflation, and emphasizing his focus on various forms of justice.
Economists and White House aides have countered Trump’s pessimistic economic outlook, noting the promising economic indicators and the success of the “soft landing” post high inflation. Pelosi dismissed Trump’s claims of credit for the current economy as “stupid” and “untrue.”
