A weather radar system in Oklahoma City was attacked shortly after the far-right extremist group “Veterans on Patrol” threatened to disable as many NexRad weather radars as possible. Authorities have not confirmed whether the group was responsible, but the timing has drawn attention.

“It started with the chemtrails, and then it moved into Hurricane Helene,” said Rachel Goldwasser, senior research analyst at the Southern Poverty Law Center, who has been tracking the group’s rhetoric. The group’s leader, Michael Lewis Arthur Meyer, reportedly posted online that their “attack simulations” were preparing them to bring radars offline.

Meyer, who has a history of arrests and spreading conspiracy theories, recently relocated to Oklahoma. Weather experts swiftly rejected the idea that radar systems could be used as “weather weapons.” NOAA radar specialist Sebastian Torres stated, “That’s impossible… Our goal is to issue timely warnings to save lives and property.”

University of Oklahoma meteorologist Robert Palmer added, “A weather radar is a system just to protect lives and property. That’s the only goal.”

The incident comes amid ongoing misinformation campaigns and rising conspiracy activity following recent deadly flooding in Texas.
