The North Carolina Republican Party defended its gubernatorial nominee, Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, following a CNN report detailing offensive comments he made over a decade ago on a porn site. Robinson reportedly referred to himself as a “black NAZI” and expressed support for reinstating slavery, among other controversial remarks. He has denied the allegations, calling them uncharacteristic.

The NCGOP responded by accusing Democrats of attempting to smear Robinson with personal attacks, claiming they want the election to focus on personality rather than policy. Despite concerns raised by some North Carolina Republican members, the party insists Robinson will stay in the race, where he faces Democratic Attorney General Josh Stein, who currently leads in the polls.
