Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, who previously ran for the Republican presidential nomination, sparked controversy during a Memorial Day visit to Israel by signing artillery shells with the message “Finish Them!” Haley’s visit took her to Israel’s northern border with Lebanon, where she was accompanied by Danny Danon, a hawkish Likud party member and former Israeli ambassador to the UN.

The visit coincided with a significant military offensive in Gaza, which has resulted in over 36,000 Palestinian deaths, including an estimated 15,000 children. Haley criticized the Biden administration for its temporary withholding of weapons to Israel, a move intended to discourage attacks on Rafah in southern Gaza. She also denounced the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which are considering charges against Israel and its leaders.

Haley defended her actions by asserting, “What America needs to understand is if Israel’s fighting our enemies, how can we not help them?” She stressed the importance of unconditional support for Israel, criticizing any efforts to restrict Israeli military actions.

Danny Danon documented Haley’s visit on his social media, highlighting her meeting with survivors of the October 7 Hamas attack, which resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,200 people and the kidnapping of 253 others.

Additionally, Haley visited West Bank settlements, which are considered illegal under international law. Israeli peace activist Alon-Lee Green condemned her visit, particularly her signing of the artillery shell, calling her actions “disgusting” and asking for her return to the U.S.

Haley’s outspoken support for Israel, despite her past criticism of Donald Trump, signals her strong alignment with hawkish Israeli policies and her stance against international judicial bodies critical of Israel.
