New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has expressed concern over sophisticated, unidentified drones spotted in parts of North and Central New Jersey. Speaking to reporters, Murphy said the drones appear to vanish when detected, raising alarms about sensitive infrastructure, including military assets, utility systems, and one of President-elect Trump’s homes in the state.
Last week, Murphy convened a briefing with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, state officials, and members of Congress to address the issue. While there is no immediate threat to public safety, state and federal authorities are actively monitoring the situation.
The FBI’s Newark office has requested public assistance in identifying the source of these drones, some of which are reportedly operating alongside a fixed-wing aircraft. Reports of the sightings have been coming in for several weeks, with activity concentrated along the Raritan River.
Murphy described the lack of answers regarding the drones’ origins and purpose as “frustrating” but assured that the state is closely coordinating with federal agencies and law enforcement.
