Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Tuesday that Israel would withdraw from the Gaza ceasefire and resume military action if Hamas does not release more hostages by the weekend. The statement follows Hamas delaying the release of three captives and accusing Israel of violating ceasefire terms.
President Donald Trump also set a deadline, stating that if all hostages are not freed by noon Saturday, he would consider the ceasefire void and allow Israel to escalate military action. Calling Hamas “bullies,” Trump said the final decision rests with Israel.
An Israeli official confirmed Netanyahu has ordered more troops to the Gaza border and instructed the military to prepare for all scenarios. Discussions in Israel’s Security Cabinet focused on Hamas’ threats, which could end the three-week-old ceasefire.
So far, Hamas has released 21 hostages in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners, but around 70 hostages remain in captivity.
