New Orleans, Louisiana — Far-right provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos says he is “very ashamed” of supporting President Donald Trump after experiencing the administration’s immigration enforcement system firsthand and being deported to the United Kingdom.
Yiannopoulos told Piers Morgan that his detention by Immigration and Customs Enforcement was “humiliating and disorienting,” describing the experience as physically degrading and frightening. He said it changed how he views accounts from others who have described traumatic encounters with immigration authorities.
“I wouldn’t wish it on anyone,” Yiannopoulos said.
The comments mark a notable reversal for the former Breitbart editor, who has supported Trump and advocated aggressive immigration enforcement, including mass deportations.
ICE detained Yiannopoulos Thursday at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. The Department of Homeland Security said he entered the United States legally but later received a final removal order after failing to appear at a July immigration hearing. He was deported Friday.
Yiannopoulos disputes the administration’s account that he simply overstayed his visa. He said he was pursuing an adjustment from an O-1 visa to permanent residency and never received notice of the immigration hearing because correspondence went to an old address.
He also criticized far-right activist Laura Loomer, who claimed credit for reporting him to ICE, and accused Trump of allowing her excessive influence.
Yiannopoulos said that had he anticipated what the Trump administration would become, he “would never have gotten involved” in supporting it.
