Senator Marco Rubio, a potential vice-presidential pick for Donald Trump, expressed reluctance to commit to accepting the 2024 presidential election results on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” Rubio emphasized that if the election is deemed unfair, it would be contested, reflecting the contentious political climate surrounding election integrity.

Rubio’s stance comes amid speculation about his role in Trump’s campaign and follows Trump’s unfounded claims that the 2020 election was stolen, which led to the January 6 insurrection. Host Kristen Welker’s repeated inquiries about whether Rubio would accept the election results regardless of the outcome were met with deflection, as Rubio pointed to past Democratic opposition to Republican victories.

Despite certifying the 2020 election results and acknowledging the importance of confidence in elections, Rubio avoided commenting on whether Trump’s refusal to accept election results undermines democracy. On the topic of Florida’s six-week abortion ban, which Trump criticized, Rubio maintained his pro-life stance without directly addressing Trump’s comments.

Rubio remained noncommittal about the possibility of being Trump’s running mate, stating he had not discussed it with Trump but acknowledging the honor of serving in such a capacity.
