Washington, DC — Conservative activist Laura Loomer is publicly lobbying to become President Donald Trump’s next White House press secretary after Katie Zacharia’s abrupt departure from the job less than a week after taking over.
“Hear me out: Press Secretary Laura Loomer,” Loomer wrote on X shortly after Zacharia’s exit became public. Loomer later said she believed she would be “amazing” in the role and suggested she would bring documentation to briefings to support administration claims.
Her pitch came after a turbulent several days for the White House communications operation. Zacharia’s first formal briefing lasted roughly 14 minutes and included questions from only three reporters. She subsequently faced scrutiny over her legal credentials and acknowledged that she had failed the California bar exam and never retook it. Reuters reported that Zacharia’s tenure was the shortest for a White House press secretary on record.
Despite seeking the job herself, Loomer defended Zacharia from what she described as excessive criticism, saying Zacharia appeared nervous but had wanted to serve Trump.
The White House had not announced a replacement when Loomer made her proposal. Trump indicated Friday that he was in no rush to fill the vacancy.
