A federal judge appointed by President Donald Trump issued a temporary restraining order preventing thousands of U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) employees from being placed on administrative leave at midnight, as originally planned by the Trump administration.

The decision follows a lawsuit filed by unions representing USAID workers, arguing that the administration’s efforts to dismantle the agency lacked required congressional approval, according to The Associated Press.

USAID, which operates in over 100 countries, focuses on economic development, health, education, and democratic governance. The Trump administration has criticized its funding choices, claiming they do not align with U.S. policy objectives.

On Friday, workers were seen removing signage from USAID’s Washington, D.C., headquarters, and covering exterior references to the agency with black tape.
