Republican vice-presidential candidate J.D. Vance has seen a steep decline in his net favorability among college graduates, plummeting 28 points from +1 percent in July to -27 percent in August, according to a Marist Poll for NPR and PBS. The drop follows increased scrutiny of Vance’s past remarks on women in abusive relationships, abortion, and his involvement with the controversial Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025.
Overall, his net favorability fell from -3 percent in July to -9 percent in August. Among Republicans, Vance’s net favorability rose to +61 percent, but it plummeted among Democrats to -59 percent and among independents to -27 percent. The polling shift has sparked speculation—dismissed by Trump’s team—that Trump might consider replacing Vance to strengthen his chances against Kamala Harris, who has seen a surge in approval ratings and leads in key battleground states.
