Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed Saturday that “Tehran is burning” after Israeli airstrikes targeted key Iranian oil depots, fulfilling his earlier warning to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The strikes hit the Shahran oil depot in western Tehran and another site in the city’s south, triggering large fires. Iran’s oil ministry claimed the damage was minor and under control.

The Shahran depot, a critical fuel source producing nearly 2 million gallons daily, was visibly damaged. The strikes come amid ongoing Iranian retaliation, including missile attacks that killed at least eight people in Israel — among them a 10-year-old boy — and injured over 150 others.

Despite escalating violence, the Trump administration continues to resist joining the conflict. Israeli officials reportedly asked the U.S. to help destroy Iran’s heavily fortified Fordow nuclear facility, which lies deep inside a mountain. However, White House officials deny any commitment to join, with one source telling Axios: “Whatever happens today cannot be prevented.”

Israeli leaders argue the success of their operation depends on eliminating Fordow — a task Israel likely cannot complete alone due to limited weapon capabilities. Trump has publicly urged Iran to pursue peace but warned of “much worse” if no nuclear deal is reached.
