WASHINGTON, D.C. — Iran has reimposed strict control over the Strait of Hormuz, reversing its brief reopening and escalating tensions tied to the ongoing U.S. naval blockade.
Iranian military officials said the strategic waterway is once again under “strict management,” requiring authorization for vessel passage. The move follows Tehran’s accusation that the United States violated ceasefire conditions by continuing to block Iranian ports.
The Strait of Hormuz, which carries about 20% of the world’s oil and natural gas shipments, is a critical global trade route. Some oil tankers reportedly turned back following the renewed restrictions, raising concerns about supply disruptions.
President Donald Trump has said the U.S. blockade will remain in place until a broader agreement is reached, signaling continued pressure on Iran during ongoing negotiations.
The development comes just one day after Iran declared the strait fully open during a temporary ceasefire. Officials from both sides continue to signal willingness to negotiate, though disagreements over enforcement and terms remain unresolved.
