Several nonprofits sued the Trump administration for halting legal aid programs for detained immigrants and blocking access to detention centers. Led by the Amica Center for Immigrant Rights, the lawsuit was filed in a D.C. federal court, seeking to reverse the stoppage.

The $28 million programs provide legal orientation in 12 states and assistance to minors. Lawyers argue Congress already approved funding and say the pause is an attack on due process. The DOJ ordered an immediate halt, citing a Trump executive order targeting services for undocumented immigrants.

Advocacy groups have ramped up legal challenges and “Know Your Rights” campaigns. The lawsuit states the programs reduce detention time and improve court efficiency. Unlike past pauses, providers are now denied entry and their materials removed from detention centers. Plaintiffs claim this violates free speech rights and obstructs transparency.
