House Republicans unveiled a bill Sunday proposing a $150 billion boost to Pentagon spending, pushing the fiscal 2025 defense budget above $1 trillion for the first time.

The bill, developed by the House and Senate Armed Services Committees, includes nearly $25 billion for President Trump’s Golden Dome missile defense initiative. Republicans are using the budget reconciliation process to pass the measure without Democratic support.

House Armed Services Chair Mike Rogers (R-Ala.) called the bill a “historic investment” to rebuild U.S. military strength, while Senate Armed Services Chair Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) called it a “generational upgrade.”

Democrats criticized the proposal, arguing it would be funded by deep cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, and education programs. Ranking member Adam Smith (D-Wash.) said the bill prioritizes tax cuts for the wealthy over American families.

Key spending includes $33.7 billion for shipbuilding, $20.4 billion for munitions, and $11.1 billion for Pacific deterrence. Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) aims to pass the package by Memorial Day.
