The House Oversight Committee confirmed it has received the first batch of Jeffrey Epstein records from the Department of Justice under a subpoena from Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.).
A committee spokesperson told the Washington Examiner the production includes “thousands of pages of documents” and said the Trump DOJ is complying faster than the Biden administration did in past disputes. “Former Attorney General Garland obstructed Chairman Comer’s subpoena for the audio of Special Counsel Hur’s interview with President Biden to hide his cognitive decline,” the spokesperson claimed.
The committee plans to release the files publicly after reviewing them for redactions of victims’ identities and child sexual abuse material. Comer’s subpoena seeks all files related to Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.
President Trump voiced support for openness while dismissing the matter as a “Democrat hoax.” Bondi, now attorney general, has told Trump his name is mentioned in the files.
Democrats have pressed for transparency as well, but also stressed Trump’s connections to Epstein. “Jeffrey Epstein was a friend of Donald Trump… Epstein was arrested, detained, and committed suicide during the Trump administration,” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) said.
