The Department of Government Efficiency announced the cancellation of 62 contracts worth $182 million, including a $168,000 exhibit honoring Dr. Anthony Fauci at the NIH’s DeWitt Stetten, Jr. Museum of Medical Research.
“These contracts were entirely for administrative expenses – none touched any healthcare programs,” DOGE posted on X.
Fauci, 84, served as President Biden’s chief medical adviser and led the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases before being replaced by Jeanne Marrazzo. Before leaving office, Biden pardoned Fauci, shielding him from potential legal actions related to COVID-19 policies. Fauci previously received 23 royalty payments from the NIH between 2009 and 2014, part of $340 million distributed to multiple recipients.
Despite the contract cancellation, Fauci has been honored elsewhere, including being named an honorary member of Princeton’s class of 2022. The NIH Stetten Museum, founded in 1986, is located in Bethesda, Maryland.
