Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign responded on Saturday to Elon Musk sharing a fake ad about her on social media. After President Joe Biden exited the race and endorsed Harris, Musk posted an altered version of Harris’ “Freedom” ad, including fake audio and video, on his platform, X. Musk commented, “This is amazing,” with a laughing emoji. His post amassed 119 million views by Sunday.

The fake ad stated, “I was selected because I am the ultimate diversity hire,” attributing false quotes to Harris. Her campaign countered, emphasizing, “We believe the American people want the real freedom, opportunity, and security Vice President Harris is offering; not the fake, manipulated lies of Elon Musk and [former President] Donald Trump.”

Harris’ original ad contrasted her vision with Trump’s, featuring Beyoncé’s song “Freedom.” It highlighted her stance on issues like gun violence and reproductive rights. Musk, a Trump supporter and DEI critic, faced criticism for not labeling the fake ad as parody, contrary to X’s policies against deceptive content.
