(Washington, D.C.) Ghislaine Maxwell, convicted accomplice of Jeffrey Epstein, is seeking a commutation of her 20-year prison sentence from President Donald Trump, according to a whistleblower who contacted House Democrats. The whistleblower, whose identity remains confidential, also alleged Maxwell is receiving “concierge-style” treatment at her Texas minimum-security prison.
NBC News obtained an email from Maxwell to her attorney, Leaf Saffian, with the subject line “commutation application,” in which she wrote she was “struggling to keep it all together.” Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, sent a letter to Trump on Monday demanding transparency and urging him not to grant clemency, writing that Maxwell “should not receive any special treatment or institutional privilege.”
The whistleblower alleged Maxwell enjoys customized meals, extended recreation privileges, and interactions with a service puppy in training. The revelations follow Maxwell’s recent transfer from a Florida facility to a Texas women’s prison, which she described as making her “happier.”
Her commutation request comes amid a wave of Trump pardons and sentence reductions for political allies. Maxwell’s previous appeal to overturn her conviction was rejected by the Supreme Court in October.
