A recent Gallup survey reveals that only 37% of Americans believe President Joe Biden is respected by world leaders, a figure unchanged from February 2023 but significantly lower than the 58% recorded at the start of his presidency in February 2021. Fifty-eight percent of respondents now think he is not respected internationally, with a notable partisan divide: 74% of Democrats view him as respected, compared to just 3% of Republicans and 34% of independents.

This perception of Biden’s respect on the global stage matches former President Donald Trump’s highest level of perceived respect during his tenure. Additionally, American satisfaction with the U.S.’s global standing has dipped slightly to 33% in 2024, the lowest since the early days of the Biden administration.

The survey also indicates a decline in the perception of the U.S.’s favorability worldwide, now at 42%, the lowest point since February 2017. The partisan split persists in views on the U.S.’s global role and the respect for its leaders, with respondents typically rating leaders from their own party more favorably.

The Gallup poll, conducted from February 1-20, 2024, involved telephone interviews with 1,016 U.S. adults and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
