Democratic Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania has agreed to meet President-elect Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago, marking the first known meeting between Trump and a sitting Democratic senator at his Palm Beach estate. “He’s the president, or will be officially, and no one is my gatekeeper,” Fetterman told CBS News.
Fetterman, who supports secure borders and protections for Dreamers, has shown openness to some Trump proposals, including discussions on Greenland and bipartisan tax reforms. Trump aides have also considered engaging other Democrats, such as Rep. Pat Ryan, on lifting the $10,000 cap on state and local tax deductions.
A transition official noted the meeting is not finalized. Fetterman, who was previously targeted by Trump during his 2022 campaign, stated, “I am a senator for everyone in Pennsylvania.”
