FBI Director Kash Patel announced Friday that Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Hannah Dugan has been arrested on charges of obstructing an immigration arrest operation. Dugan allegedly attempted to help an undocumented immigrant evade arrest by federal agents.
According to Patel, Judge Dugan “intentionally misdirected federal agents away from the subject to be arrested in her courthouse,” referring to Eduardo Flores Ruiz, who is now in FBI custody. The arrest was initially announced by Patel on X, then deleted and reposted after Dugan appeared in court.
Dugan was briefly held before being released. Her attorney, Craig Mastantuono, said the judge “wholeheartedly regrets and protests her arrest,” calling it unnecessary and unrelated to public safety.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel had reported earlier in the week that the FBI was investigating whether Dugan interfered in the case. The incident reportedly occurred April 18, when ICE agents arrived at the courthouse with a warrant.
