Attorney General Pam Bondi on Monday dropped a federal lawsuit filed under the Biden administration that challenged Georgia’s 2021 Election Integrity Act. The law, passed after President Trump’s 2020 loss in the state, prohibits giving food or water to voters in line and implements stricter voter ID rules, limits ballot drop boxes, and restricts mobile voting units.
Bondi criticized the previous administration’s suit, which labeled the law “Jim Crow in the 21st century,” as misleading. “Contrary to the Biden Administration’s false claims of suppression, Black voter turnout actually increased under [the law],” she said.
Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger welcomed the decision, calling it validation of the law’s constitutionality and fairness. “Our commitment has always been to ensure fair and secure elections for every Georgian,” he said.
The law faced national backlash, including the MLB’s decision to relocate the 2021 All-Star Game. Despite criticism, Georgia saw record voter turnout in the 2024 election, which Trump won.
