Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has launched official X accounts for the IRS and SEC, aiming to engage the public in identifying waste, fraud, and inefficiencies within the agencies. Musk reshared posts from both accounts on Monday, signaling his commitment to using social media as a tool for government transparency and cost-cutting efforts.

The move comes as DOGE seeks access to the IRS’s Integrated Data Retrieval System (IDRS), which holds taxpayer records. This has sparked criticism from Democratic senators Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), who warn that allowing DOGE access could violate federal tax laws and threaten data privacy.

Musk’s expanding role in government restructuring has drawn both praise for pushing efficiency and scrutiny over potential overreach. As DOGE continues its aggressive reform agenda, critics worry that social media-driven governance could blur the lines between public accountability and political influence.
